Kichha town also witnessed similar scenes of rioting around the same time. "The people belonging to the majority community took out a procession to celebrate India's victory in the world cup cricket match," said Pramod Kumar Circle Officer, Kichha. They began shouting slogans reflecting badly on the minority community as soon as the procession went past a mosque. That enraged those who were offering Ramzan prayers and soon a clash ensued, in which four people were injured, said the CO adding, the rioters also torched four shops.
Meanwhile, talking to the Hindustan Times from Gadarpur police station Ravin Bajaj, a BJP worker, said the three arrested party colleagues had been sitting on a dharna since last night demanding that SSP Prasad be immediately transferred. "They will not lift their dharna until the official concerned is transferred," Bajaj said. Admitting that the situation in both towns "continues to remain tense but under control," Prasad said three companies of PAC besides several police jawans had been deployed in the affected areas as a precautionary measure.
